SAMUEL HERRICK BUTLER


Samuel Herrick Butler, son of Rev. Nathaniel Butler and wife Sarah Herrick, was born 12 Feb 1785 in Bennington VT, and died 13 Dec 1851 in Columbus, Franklin Co OH. He was married 26 Jun 1806 in Waterford NY to Judith Livingston, daughter of Gilbert James Livingston and wife Susannah Lewis, born 4 Sep 1785 in Poughkeepsie NY, and died 28 Feb 1858 in Columbus, Franklin Co OH. Both were buried in Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus. In the 1850 census [Ward 3, Columbus, Franklin Co OH, p. 315], Samuel H. and Judith Butler were living with their son, C.P.L. Butler. Samuel's occupation was "none," but his 18 year old son, Theodore, was in business with his uncle as a baker. Several others, employed in that industry, lived in the household. S.H. Butler was a minister of the gospel, according to the obituary of his son, C.P.L. Butler.
