Samuel Ross Marvin, son of Robert Marvin and wife Phebe Ford, was born 5 Jun 1804 in Dover NJ, and died 29 Jun 1863. He was married 17 Apr 1842 to Julia Ann Place, possible daughter of Acra Place and his wife Elizabeth Knight, who was born 23 Jul 1808 traditionally in Oxford, Butler Co OH; and died 4 Jul 1884. Samuel Marvin attended Miami University and taught school in Hamilton County for several years. He is listed in the 1850 census, Crosby Twp., Hamilton Co OH, p. 315, with his wife, two children, and Elizabeth Ransdale, age 71, and Owen Place, age 47. Samuel is a farmer, with $4200 in real estate. His mother, Phebe Marvin, is living next door. Samuel and Julia Ann Marvin were buried in Glen Haven Cemetery in Harrison, Hamilton Co OH. Parts of the old home were used to construct the toolshed at Glen Haven Cemetery. There is a Samuel Marvin, age 30-40, living in Delaware Twp., Delaware Co OH, in 1840, p. 228, with an apparent wife, and two young children. Delaware County is a stronghold of the Place family, and there is a marriage recorded for one Samuel B. Marvin, with Charlotte Harrison, on 17 Oct 1831, in Bloomfield Twp., Knox Co OH (Vol. 1, p. 237). The marriage to Julia Ann Place also lists the initial as Samuel B. Marvin. However, the internet web site by William Addams Reitwiesner identifies Julia's father as Acra Place of Hamilton Co OH.
